What to wear - family photo shoot guide
Are you considering an outdoor family photo shoot but don’t have a clue what you should wear?
If so, don’t panic! Here are some of my suggestions below.
Colours
Decide on a colour scheme and try to stick to it. Don’t go for one colour for all family members, but choose a couple that are complimentary to one another.
Remember, anything too bright, fussy or overly-detailed will put the focus on the clothes rather on you, which is the exact opposite of what we’re hoping to achieve.
Solids or Patterns
Try to limit prints and patterns as much as possible. Unless it is of sentimental value, it might sound like fun to give dad a jumper with a funky print but these elements can be quite distracting in the final photographs so it’s probably best to play it safe.
When thinking about texture, choose different ones that will give photos some interest such as lace, corduroy, denim, etc. Avoid large logo’s, emblems and graphics like “NIKE” and “SUPER DRY” because again, these will typically distract attention away from the subject. We want your faces, your emotion and the connections you share to be the focus in the photos.
Blending into the background…
Make sure your clothing will not blend into your background. For example are you considering going for a photo shoot in the woods? Try to limit green colours in your choices of clothing.
Be smart but comfortable (smart-casual)
During your outdoor family photo shoot, I’ll be aiming to capture natural photos. That means that I want them to reflect who you really are. It’s hard to capture happy, relaxed photos if someone is feeling really uncomfortable and not confident in their clothing.
Don’t wear anything that’s either too tight-fitting or too baggy. You want your clothes to be flattering, and make you look and feel great! Remember you will be looking at these photos for years to come.
In a nutshell, simple, classic clothes work best (denim jeans, dresses, neutral tops, unbranded trainers etc)
